Jacob Spaulding-Schecter, Founder of Systems Literacy Initiative, mental health system education

Meet Jacob

Hello! I’m Jacob Spaulding-Schecter, a psychiatric nurse practitioner passionate about education. I live in Columbus, Ohio with my partner and elderly rescue cat, Treble.

I’ve never thought something was too complicated to understand. Whenever I encounter something confusing, I feel driven to translate it into language that makes sense to me. That instinct has shaped how I think, learn, and work.

Every day, we interact with systems that aren’t fully explained, including the mental health care system. Many people encounter it without a clear understanding of how it is structured, how its parts relate, or what to expect.

My work focuses on mental health system literacy — I create resources that explain how the mental health system works using easy-to-understand language. This work reflects my lifelong interest in the power of explanation, combined with the knowledge and experience I’ve gained throughout my professional career in mental health care.

I believe understanding systems can change how we experience them.

Warmly,

Jacob Spaulding-Schecter, APRN-CNP, PMHNP-BC
